i have never owned before but i can remember the first pony i rode, his name was casey, my friends little chesnut pony, he was really old but still speedy and we used to charge around his little field and made little jumps balanced on flower pots, great fun, after that i rode a little welsh pony he was only 11.3hh and 4yrs old, he was totally fantastic and called cracker, i rode him for three years until we both got attacked by an alsatian on a hack and i totally lost my nerve after that but he was fab.

First pony I ever rode was a gelding called Toby and I vaguely remember he was dark bay with funny mottled bits on him! I think he was fairly elderly and can only have been about 12hh. Memory is a bit vague as it was 25 years ago (eek!).
I still have my first horse - a grey mare called Phanta. She's on loan to someone as a companion and is enjoying her retirement at 26 years old. She broke her leg a few years ago and can no longer be ridden, but she still has fun with her field mates.

My first pony was a Welsh Cob called Pippin. He was black, 11yrs and 14.2hh. He was very loving and a gentle giant really! I loved him to bits and we did everything - mounted games, Pony Club, showing etc.

My first pony was a French trotter called Pepi who was a bay gelding and would do nothing but trot. He had horrific injuries and was always lame so I only loaned him for about 4 months as I hardly ever got to ride him and it was a waste of money, so then I got Star who died about a year ago, he was a very handsome strawberry roan and had so much character it was unreal!!

i have had my pony for a year and a bit now- he is my first. i had him on loan for a year and then bought him in september! yay! first pony i ever rode was a little grey mare called splash did it all on her-first ride, first canter, first jump, first 100 falls! but my heart is still with a little black shetland x called betsy-she was much too small for me and cheeky as hell but taught me alot, one ofthose ponys who will do anything ffor u if you get on the right side of them, but will be SO naughty for people they dont like! i would buuy her if i had enough money-id love to teach my future kids to ride on her!

The first horse I had on loan was mad and strong, and used to take off with me and jump over anything in her path, she scared me to death. I then loaned a lovely little New Forest pony, who used to take me out on wonderful hacks across her owners farm and I was able to take my dog with me which was bliss.
The first pony I owned was called Flynn, a 14.2hh chestnut Arab. After Flicka (the NFP) he was a bit of a handful, very spooky and flighty but a real sweety on the ground. He was great at gymkhanas but not a lot else, and as I was a bit old for gymkhana I sold him to a lovely kid who had him (and maybe still has him) for years and years.
Them were the years!

First pony I rode was called Kellogs. Somehow everyone I know who went to that stables says that he was the first pony they rode, which I'm sure can't be right... He was probably about 11.2 - 12hh and dark bay and very fluffy. He was also quite elderly, but they had him for years and years and kept him into his retirement.
The first (and only) pony I ever owned was 14hh dun connemara x mare called Flair. She was probably three when we got her, although the dealer told us she was five... She knew exactly how to take advantage of a small rider (I was 11) and she taught me one hell of a lot. I sold her last Easter (she'd been out on loan for a few years before that as I was living elsewhere) after 8 years, and I hadn't cried so much since I was 8 and we moved house. I got it into my head that I should hack her up to the yard where she was going to be kept, and when I got there the girl was so excited, and had found out from one of the girls who'd had her on loan before that they'd ridden her in a dutch gag, running martingale and flash for cross country, and seeing as Flair was overexcited (she did disgrace herself) and had been on box rest following a bout of colic, all these devices were put on her. I've been to see her since, and they were off again, but still, leaving her like that...
Dad took me to the pub and gave me a drink and a cigar (!) and I didn't go back to my parents house for three months coz I couldn't face the empty stable. Now I'm back living there again and am keeping an eye open for something to fill it with! Just have to remember I have first refusal to buy Flair back when the girl outgrows her, so must leave room!!!
Sorry for the long rambling post!

My first pony was on loan-a gorgeous Dartmoor x Anglo Arab called Pagan, he taught me so much about looking after a pony..
He was very naughty to catch(of course always when we had a farrier appointment) and hated jumping-probably why i hate it today..
But he really was brilliant, i knew he'd never ever hurt me and my best memory was of the very last show just before i had to give him back - he jumped a double clear for me-it was only a 1ft9 class but i was so proud!
Blossom is my first pony i bought - no history, bought her from a farmer, but she's the sweetest pony ive ever met. I saved up my paper round money and all my jobs since i was thirteen to buy her - she was worth every penny!
